A night filled with excitement

There is something special about starting new hobbies and passing them down to the kids. Two days prior I decided to go on my first Duck Hunt because, the deer had not been very active. I went with my brother-in-law and two nephews. I had always said that getting out in the water with it freezing cold was not for me.

I could tell early on why people enjoy duck hunting. We had a decent hunt, but there was something special about the fellowship with family. It was exciting seeing the day break and ducks flying through the air. I enjoyed it so much that two days later I decided to take my 6 year old son, Weston. When I asked him to go; his eyes lit up with excitement.

We went out and got him his first shotgun which was a single shot .410. I can still remember the day my dad bought me my first shotgun which was also a single shot .410. When we arrived at the lake the following day; I knew it wasn’t going to be good because flood waters had receded and there was no longer current to keep water from freezing.

We had a tough journey across the frozen lake in a 14ft Jon boat with only a paddle. We didn’t have much luck but he had a blast and now we have something to look forward to together. This was a beginning of a journey. Its not always about the kill. Its about getting out and enjoying the beautiful outdoors and making memories.
