Chasing the Spawn

Crappie season! It haunts me! Every year it’s my obsession! I’m either in them or I’m skunked! I haven’t made the jump to a Live-scope yet so it’s just old fashioned fishing with jigs and minnows to try and find spawning fish.

This photo was taken on Lake Caroline where I have several known spots that hold fish in about 7′ of water. As the light starts to set I’ll switch from a black and chartreuse to a white-bodied Mr. Twister, tip that with a live minnow for extra realism and smell, and we can get lucky with a limit now and then.
